What are the Differences Between Batch and Continuous Pyrolysis Equipment?

Batch and continuous pyrolysis equipment are the two main types of equipment used in tire pyrolysis processing. They differ significantly in operating modes, processing scale, technical requirements, and applicable scenarios. The main differences are as follows:

Operation and Processing Flow: Batch processing is used. Operators load raw materials into the reactor, which undergoes a series of processes including heating, pyrolysis, and cooling. Only after the finished products (such as pyrolysis oil, carbon black, steel wire, etc.) are discharged can the next batch of raw materials be processed.

Processing Scale and Production Efficiency: Typically suitable for small to medium-sized recycling stations, with a daily processing capacity of approximately 10-15 tons and an annual processing capacity usually below 5000 tons. Its production capacity and efficiency are relatively low.

Investment Cost and Operating Requirements: Low initial investment threshold; relatively simple equipment design and operation; easy to start and shut down. High tolerance for raw materials; no strict sorting or cleaning is required; raw materials can be directly fed into the production line for processing.

Core Technology and Environmental Performance: The process is relatively traditional, but may face challenges in meeting environmental standards. Some batch processing equipment achieves environmentally friendly treatment through technologies such as waste gas re-combustion and atomization dust removal.

Operation and Processing Flow: Continuous feeding and discharging is used. Raw materials can be continuously fed into the production line 24 hours a day, and products are continuously produced after the pyrolysis reaction, achieving long-term stable full-load operation.

Processing Scale and Production Efficiency: Designed specifically for large-scale solid waste treatment industrial parks, it boasts strong processing capacity and is suitable for large-scale, continuous waste treatment needs.

Investment Costs and Operating Requirements: Initial investment is higher, and operation and management requirements are more complex. To ensure continuous and stable operation, a mature automated control system (such as PLC/DCS intelligent control) is typically required. Fewer personnel are needed, but high technical expertise is required. Furthermore, continuous processing equipment usually requires relatively uniform particle size and type of feed material.

Core Technologies and Environmental Performance: It typically integrates more advanced core technologies, such as "non-coking technology," "thermal sealing technology," and "fully enclosed technology." The entire pyrolysis process takes place in a closed, slightly negative pressure environment, effectively preventing dust and volatile organic compound (VOC) leakage and secondary pollution. Simultaneously, continuous equipment is usually equipped with a comprehensive flue gas purification system to ensure that exhaust emissions meet stringent environmental standards.

The choice of equipment mainly depends on the source of raw materials, project scale, and investment budget.

Scenarios for choosing intermittent equipment:

  • Start-up phase or small-scale projects: Low investment threshold, relatively intuitive operation.

  • Unstable raw material sources: Can flexibly process different types and forms of waste tires, and even other materials, such as the aforementioned sludge.

  • Dispersed sites: Facilitates the deployment of small-scale equipment in multiple locations.

Scenarios for choosing continuous equipment:

  • Large-scale industrial production: Pursuing long-term, stable, and high output.

  • High requirements for environmental protection and product quality: Especially in areas with strict environmental policies, its closed operation and stable product quality are significant advantages.

  • Stable and sufficient raw material supply: And the raw material (tire granules) can be properly pre-treated.

The choice of equipment mainly depends on the scale of the project and the budget. Intermittent equipment requires less investment and is flexible in operation, making it suitable for small-scale or initial projects; while continuous equipment, although requiring more investment and higher technical requirements, has higher processing efficiency, higher automation, and better environmental performance, making it the mainstream choice for large-scale solid waste resource utilization projects.
